Tim Waskett talks about his work: 'I spent numerous years painting different shades of blue either in far-flung places or just plain old Canning Town in London. Trying to capture the scale of a quiet, everyday big event. You’re looking up at a massive beach tree on a cold sunny day and struck with awe at the little bits of magical blue in between leaves. You’ve closed the curtains but not quite shut so a slither of luminous vibrant blue cuts through the evening night. I’d
like to strike a happy balance between the most over-the-top baroque,
Florentine church interior, and the simplest Barnet Newman - something
full of excitement, lustre and magic but not so busy you're gasping for
air. A painting which encompasses a number of moments: Paintings, which talk ultimately about themselves having reference to the outside world but living in their own space and time. Not looking back or to the future but firmly in the present. Pick
a colour. Look at it, put it against another one watch it change, breath
and hop about. A colour that is intensely engaging captures your imagination
and asks a few questions. |
